FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
WHAT IS LISTENING TO DREAMS ALL ABOUT?
“Listening to Dreams” is a therapeutic writing process that helps people better understand themselves and their lives through dreams. Used one-on-one or in groups, this method involves a regular writing and dream work practice, which combine to offer fresh insights and creative ways to change old patterns and breathe new life into out-dated stories.
WHAT IS PROPRIOCEPTIVE WRITING?
“Listening to Dreams” employs the Proprioceptive Writing (PW) technique developed by Dr. Linda Trichter Metcalf and Dr. Tobin Simon (pwriting.org). PW is a ritualized 25-minute writing practice. PW enhances emotional health, spiritual awakening and creative breakthroughs. PW can be learned quickly and developed over a lifetime. Applied to dreams, this practice helps you to understand the often-mysterious stories and symbols of your dreams in relation to your waking life.
WHAT WILL I LEARN? WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
In addition to learning a simple yet profound approach to dream work, you will learn more about who you are, where you are headed, what is standing in the way of reaching your full potential. You will develop increased confidence in you intuition and greater access to your innate creativity. Perhaps most significant of all: You will have the opportunity to develop a dream work practice that can continue to guide and inform you throughout your life.
WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR APPROACH TO DREAMS?
In “Listening to Dreams” we adopt an open, receptive posture toward dreams. We integrate the information and wisdom from our dreaming minds so we can access its insights and creative powers when we are awake.
BUT HOW DO YOU DO IT?
First we record the dream in writing, creating a simple dream report. Then we practice the easy but profound Proprioceptive Writing technique to explore the dream more fully
I DON’T REMEMBER MY DREAMS OFTEN, AND SOMETIMES ALL I RECALL IS A FRAGMENT. IS “LISTENING TO DREAMS” FOR ME?
Yes. Even the slightest dream fragment can net valuable results. All that is required is an attitude of openness and curiosity. The best way to begin to remember your dreams is to want to do so. The more you listen to your dreams, the more they will speak to you. Whether or not you recall your dreams, most everybody does dream. In fact, about 1/3 of our lives is spent asleep. The more we pay attention to the experiences, thoughts, images and encounters of our sleeping minds, the more we can access our full potential.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Workshop prices vary depending on number of participants, venue and length of the workshops. Private sessions are based on a rate of $95 per hour.
ARE PRIVATE SESSIONS FOR ME?
Private sessions are ideal for anyone who has or wants to develop a regular and productive dream practice, and for anyone who wants to get to know themselves and their world more deeply. At least three sessions are recommended to allow for time to learn the technique and delve meaningfully into the dream or dreams you want to work with.
WHAT IF I LIVE OUTSIDE OF YOUR REGION?
Sessions can be conducted in person (in western Massachusetts or occasionally in other locations) as well as by telephone or Internet (Skype).
